Jess McCarron is a trusted communications strategist with 15 years of experience advising senior leadership in government, business, and the nonprofit sector. As a Managing Director at Signal Group, she leads Signal Outdoors — the first dedicated practice area focused on outdoor policy communications. Jess combines her passion for the natural world with her communications expertise to advise public affairs strategy across a range of issue areas, including land and ocean conservation, climate, energy, food, and agriculture.
Prior to joining Signal, Jess spent nearly five years as Press Secretary and Strategic Communications Advisor on the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry. She advised the Committee during the 2018 Farm Bill, developing communications strategies to build bipartisan support for land and water conservation, food assistance, clean energy, and more.
Earlier in her career, Jess was a political appointee at the U.S. Department of Agriculture Office of Communications, managing press inquiries and media interviews for the Secretary of Agriculture. She also served as Regional Communications Director and Deputy Press Secretary at Enroll America, the leading Affordable Care Act outreach organization during the implementation of the law.
Drawn to public service and community organizing, Jess started her career with early experiences in the City of Tampa Mayor's Office, the White House, and on local, state, and national political campaigns. She is a sixth-generation Floridian and graduated magna cum laude from the University of Tampa.
Outside of work, you'll find her spending as much time as possible outdoors — enjoying day hikes, bike commuting, gardening, beach days, and watching trash TV when it's too cold outside.
