As an Executive Vice President and Co-Chair of Signal Outdoors, Jess combines her passion for nature with her policy communications expertise to advise public affairs strategy for a variety of clients with a focus in conservation, ocean protection, renewable energy, public lands, climate change, sustainability, food access, and agriculture. Drawing from her experience as a trusted advisor and spokesperson to senior leadership in government and nonprofits, Jess takes a creative approach to storytelling and problem solving to help clients break through and shape the conversation around high-profile issues.
Prior to joining Signal, Jess served as Press Secretary and Strategic Communications Advisor for the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry. She advised the Committee during the 2018 Farm Bill, where she led communications strategies to build bipartisan support for climate-smart agriculture, food assistance, clean energy, forestry, land and water conservation, and more.
Before her work on Capitol Hill, Jess was an Obama Administration appointee at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, serving as Deputy Press Secretary to the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture. Prior to that, she held several communications roles at the leading health care enrollment organization during the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, where she led media engagement to reach women, young people, and communities of color. While earning her undergraduate degree from the University of Tampa, Jess was active in local government and politics, interning in the Mayor’s Office, in the White House, and on local, state, and national political campaigns.
Jess grew up in North Florida and spends her time outside of work enjoying nature, biking around town, tending to her garden with mixed success, and creating habitat for birds and pollinators in her yard.
