WASHINGTON – Signal Group, a leader in modern public affairs, today announced that Shelby Wagenseller has joined Signal Group as a vice president of the firm’s Communications practice. Wagenseller previously spent several years at Signal before serving as Senior Communications Advisor for the Milwaukee Host Committee and Deputy Chief Operating Officer for the 2020 Democratic National Convention Committee.
“Shelby is a total pro when it comes to high profile brand and policy communications in Washington or around the country,” said Jessica Rihani, Signal Group’s Chief Operating Officer. “She was an asset to our firm and went on to play several key roles at the Democratic convention where she helped rewrite the playbook for managing large scale events during these unprecedented times. We are thrilled to have her back on the team to leverage that experience and those relationships on our clients’ behalf.”
“The 2020 Democratic National Convention faced the same challenges America’s largest organizations are grappling with in response to COVID-19,” said Wagenseller. “Our ability to quickly adapt and produce a multi-day prime-time program from across the country equipped me with incredible perspective that I look forward to sharing with Signal’s clients as part of our modern public affairs model.”
Shelby began her career in communications supporting the 2012 Democratic National Convention Committee in Charlotte, later working on President Obama’s 2012 re-election campaign, the 2013 Presidential Inaugural Committee, and the 2016 Democratic National Convention. As the 2016 Convention’s Innovation Coordinator, Shelby managed the relationships with the major technology providers and coordinated the live streaming of the 2016 DNC. She then served in the Obama administration as a Deputy Press Secretary at the Department of Agriculture.
Signal also welcomed Sunjay Lee and Mackenzie Mertikas as associates supporting the Communications team. Lee previously worked for a public affairs firm in Los Angeles and supported the LA Mayor’s office. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in NGOs and Social Change from the University of Southern California. Mertikas recently graduated with a dual Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations and Political Science from Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications and Maxwell School of Citizenship and Civic Engagement.
