Issue: Creating an online publication
Joint Ocean Commission Initiative (JOCI), a bipartisan, collaborative group of senior ocean leaders, wanted to create a digital-only version of their Ocean Action Agenda report to engage legislators and influencers with visually stimulating design and content, have more general audiences and media engage with the report, and have the ability to update the content over time
SIGNAL created a digital version of the Ocean Action Agenda report that retained JOCI’s branding while providing new content and features, rather than just design a simple PDF to download. We presented a clean design and simple site navigation for visitors to move easily between content sections. We designed simple left-right swipe features when navigating within content sections to have the feeling of turning a page. The report’s design was structured to be mobile and tablet-friendly so that it could be presented to key stakeholders during meetings. The report design also features stories from each of the U.S.’ six coastal areas to tie real people and places with the actions recommended by JOCI’s Leadership Council.
JOCI has a dynamic resource to present their recommendations to leaders on how to protect and strengthen coastal communities and America’s oceans. No longer tied to a static print report with limited number of copies, the website can be updated at any time and is available to larger audiences. The website can also be expanded to provide new types of content going forward, such as video stories or additional features.
