At SIGNAL, Mike thrives at the intersection of government and the private sector. He’s adept at identifying where interests converge to produce in mutually beneficial policy outcomes. Although he never expected to stay in the D.C. area after completing active duty in the Navy, his fascination and passion for government service culminated in a 30-year career in the U.S. House of Representatives before joining SIGNAL in 2009. Mike’s work on Capitol Hill taught him how to identify the most effective ways to promote and protect his clients’ interests.
Mike served as the national security advisor for Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) for six years, with responsibility for all matters affecting the security of the United States, including defense, foreign policy, energy security, homeland security, and intelligence. As Democratic staff director and chief counsel on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, Mike was responsible for the committee’s work in authorizing funding for, and overseeing, the conduct of, the nation’s intelligence activities. He also served as chief of staff for Congressmen Richard Neal (D-MA) and Edward Boland (D-MA).
Mike holds a B.A. from Marquette University and a J.D. from Georgetown University. His loyalty to Washington now extends beyond service as he considers himself a local in part because of his devotion to the city’s sports teams.
